HTC to Host Jimmo and Van Arsdale Seminar September 15
Hayabusa Training Centre announced Wednesday that a pair of seminars featuring revered MMA coach Mike Van Arsdale and light heavyweight UFC standout Ryan Jimmo have been booked for September 15 at the club.
"Mike Van Arsdale is a world class coach who has trained some of the best fighters in the world,” HTC owner Luke Harris said of the respected trainer. “It's going to be a privilege to have him at our gym."
A former UFC vet, Van Arsdale’s fight resume includes a who’s who of MMA’s elite champions, including Randy Couture, Renato “Babalu” Sobral, Matt Lindland and Wanderlei Silva. A freestyle wrestling gold medalist at the 1997 World Cup and a former NCAA wrestling champion.
Van Arsdale’s unique wrestling-centric approach to MMA has helped add new dimensions to the arsenals of top fighters he’s coached, including Jimmo and former UFC light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans. During his esteemed coaching tenure, he has logged time at the famed Jackson’s MMA and Blackzilians camps as well as a brief stint at the Scottsdale branch of the Lion’s Den.
“It is an honor to have this opportunity to work with Luke from Hayabusa, Ryan Jimmo, Hayabusa Training Centre members and all of the guests who will be attending this event,” Van Arsdale said Wednesday. “I look forward to conducting a well-run, highly informational and upbeat seminar in a positive learning environment. Participants will feel empowered.”
An original Hayabusa Training Centre team member, former MFC light heavyweight champ, Jimmo is undefeated in his past 17 bouts. That span includes a seven-second highlight-reel knockout win over Octagon veteran Anthony Perosh in his UFC debut at UFC 149 in July. The feat tied “Big Deal” with Duane “Bang” Ludwig for the fastest knockout in UFC history. A multiple-time national karate champion, Jimmo’s powerful and unorthodox striking style has made him a threat and a complex puzzle no opponent has been able to figure out since 2007. Jimmo joined the Blackzilians and spent several months training under Van Arsdale before the coach announced earlier this year that he would be leaving the team to return home to Arizona to be closer to his children. Although he no longer trains under him, Jimmo praises his coaching abilities and says that the seminar is a must-attend for aspiring fighters or those who wish to add solid wrestling techniques to their game.
"Mike is one of the best MMA coaches on the planet,” Jimmo says.
The seminars, which are scheduled for 10:00 to 11:30 am and 1:30 to 3:00 pm, will feature a combination of striking, wrestling and grappling for MMA taught by both Van Arsdale and Jimmo.
Members can attend a single session for $50 or both for $75. Non-members can attend either single session for $75, or both for $100.
