History
Caio Terra was born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. His Jiu-Jitsu
journey began at the age of 16 at his mothers behest. Caio was
physically smaller than his peers (he weighed 88lbs entering high
school) and his mother, worried about his safety, insisted he enroll in
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Caio responded like any rebellious teenager and
essentially skipped his first year of classes (Terra maintains that he
probably did not know a single move until he really started training a
year later in 2003).
Despite his initial lack of motivation,
the situation would change drastically. After receiving his white and
blue belts under Ricardo Vieira, Rodrigo Medeiros, and Felipe Costa,
Terra started training under Grandmaster Paulo Mauricio Strauch and
Grandmaster Reyson Gracie. Unfortunately, Terra could only attend one
class per day at the gym, but by this point his motivation was
unquestionable and so he built a mat room at his house so that he could
train four to five times a day. Jiu Jitsu had become a part of his life.
Within three years of dedicated training, Caio Terra would receive his
black belt under Grandmaster Stauch and Reyson Gracie in 2006.
Skeptics questioned how anyone could possibly become a black belt with
only three years of training, especially in the art of Brazilian
Jiu-Jitsu where belt promotion is not taken lightly. He would prove to
the world that he was not only deserving of the rank but was among the
sports elite. Caio Terra is a four-time Rio de Janeiro state champion, a
five-time Brazilian National Champion, and thirteen-time World
Medalist, the ONLY four time International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
Federation (IBJJF) Black Belt World No-Gi Champion. Additionally, he was
the IBJJF Black Belt World Champion (with gi) in 2008 and finished in
second place in 2009.

he felt it was time to bring his unique brand of jiu jitsu to the world
and started the Caio Terra Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Association.
